Coherence of Single Electron Sources from Mach-Zehnder Interferometry

A new type of single electron sources (SES) has emerged which permits to inject single particles in a controllable manner into an electronic circuit. Multiparticle exchange, two-particle interference effects, entanglement and HBT experiments have already been proposed. Here we determine the coherence length of the single-particle states analyzing the decay of Aharonov-Bohm oscillations as a function of the imbalance of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer connected to an SES. This single-particle coherence length is of particular importance as it is an intrinsic property of the source in contrast to the dephasing length.
